WHAT IS FASHION FUSION? The Telekom Fashion Fusion is an competition, 9 finalist teams have bin chosen to develop their concept further from Feb2018 to June2018 with support and contact of the Deutsche Telekom. The Goal is to bring Fashion and Technology together and combine it to a awsome concepts.

RESEARCH

I started thinking about this topic after I realized that I get disturbed by my own smart-phone every time I get navigated by it through an own known city by foot. I realized that I have to hear the instructions every few seconds and have to look on the screen every few meters - I couldn't enjoy the city by 100%!

As I started thinking about this problem I noticed that there a plenty of user groups that needs to be navigated, but can't or don't want to be disturbed by the visual and hearing sense!

This is only one research for blind people and hundreds of good reasons for an alternative navigation system!
Imagine kids that got lost in a crowd gets navigated back to their parents just through vibration or friends that find back together on a loud festival or a concert.

If you are in a new city and want to get navigated from point A to B, you usually have three options:

According to WHO - the World Health Organisation - out of the 253 million vision impaired people worldwide - 36 million are 100% blind. RNIB - the Royal National Institute of Blind People - reports about 250 people starting to loose their sight in the UK every day with numbers increasing from year to year.

But imagine we give blind people a way, to be navigated through the streets from A to B without disturbing them in any way - by the feel of touch and vibration on their arm!

BLIND PEOPLE

CONCEPT

After playing around with tactile feedback effects, I came to the conclusion that vibration is the simplest, most reliable and best haptic feedback for a small device like a bracelet.

Based on first prototypes I realized that human beings are able to feel the difference of two  vibrating sources on the right side and the left side their arm. A bracelet with 3 vibrating devices provides indication  for left, right and straight-ahead directions. Synchronizing with map-based information from a smart-phone, the bracelet provides guidance for sight-impaired or blind-users - but also for ordinary people.

The Bracelet itself does not have any intelligence - receiving directional information from the user's smartphone it works as a translator. Therefore the Bracelet itself needs a micro-controller, a Bluetooth-chip, batteries, some transistors, 3 vibration-motors, an on/off button and an energy-input connector like a micro-USB. A vibration on the right side of the bracelet and  2 additional repetitions, the user receives sufficient signal-input to take to his right side. Simple combinations of vibration signals may provide warnings and hints concerning the environment.

The Navigation Bracelet is a tool to open new ways (and streets ;] ) for blind and visually impaired people, safety for kids and comfort for a group of friends.

The "job that needs to be done", is to provide an alternative navigation system that only uses the tactile sense to enable the mobility for blind people, safety for young kids, comfort for friends  and thousands of other use cases.

After thinking a lot about this topic I realized that it wouldn't be smart to only select a bunch of use cases, because they are are unlimited. Therefor it would be smart to create an APP that enable the possibility to create your own use cases.

By a simple drag-and-drop system, everybody is able to "program" the VIBRACE.

After creating a use case for the bracelet it's possible to upload everything and share it with your friends or with the whole community. Or just download an existing use case and upload it on to your VIBRACE.

This enables the possibility to guide u back to your little discoverer who got lost in a crowd, your friends without calling or texting them, creating new ways for visual impaired people, make the life easier for wheelchair users, safer for bikers in a city, improve tourism while enjoying new city's, find the right way for mountain bikers and snowboarders....
